KIEM – Context Program at Presence in Process

In December, five participants from De Zorgdragerij in Roermond were trained by Studio Claudy Jongstra to learn traditional, natural techniques. Drawing on their own abilities and strengths, they transformed the training into a series of workshops, which they will lead themselves at the Cuypershuis.

Join the workshops

The workshop series consists of three workshops that take participants on a journey from sheep to finished product. Each workshop includes an introduction to the exhibition “Presence in Process” and a hands-on session where we’ll get to work using traditional techniques. You can attend a single workshop or multiple workshops in the series.

Workshop 1: From Sheep to Usable Wool
April 8, May 20, & July 1 || 2:00–3:45 p.m. (FULL)

During this workshop, we’ll discover how to transform raw wool from the sheep into usable wool that can be dyed or incorporated into a product. During the introduction to the exhibition, we’ll learn about Studio Claudy Jongstra’s working methods. In the Cuyperslab, we’ll get to work carding and dyeing wool.

Workshop 2: From Plant to Dye
April 22, June 3, & July 15 || 2:00–4:00 p.m. (FULL)

In this workshop, we’ll discover which plants can be used to dye wool. During the introduction in the exhibition, we’ll view the work “Tangible Transformations” and discover which plants were used to create the colors in the piece. After taking a look at the museum’s cloister garden, we’ll get to work dyeing wool ourselves in the Cuyperslab.

Workshop 3: From Wool to Product
May 6, June 17 & July 29 || 2:00–3:45 p.m. (FULL)

In this workshop, we’ll explore traditional techniques for working with wool. During the introductory session in the exhibition, we’ll examine studies and research to see how Claudy Jongstra develops her designs. In the Cuyperslab, we’ll get hands-on with various traditional techniques, such as weaving, carding, spinning, and needle felting.

All workshop dates are now fully booked.

Keep an eye on our social media channels for other activities.

We’d like to emphasize that the workshops are open to everyone. You don’t need any prior knowledge or specific skills to participate. Do you have a visible or invisible disability? You’re still very welcome to join us. We’d be happy to discuss how we can make the workshop as enjoyable as possible for you. Because the workshops “From Sheep to Usable Wool” and “From Plant to Dye” involve working with hot water, they are open to participants ages 12 and up. Children under 16 may only participate when accompanied by an adult.
