In the workshop

Museum lesson for grades 5 through 8 in which students are introduced to the stenciling technique.

Lesson Content
Walls… ceilings… and even furniture… Pierre Cuypers’ designs were often richly decorated. He used a special technique for this: stenciling. By using a stencil, he was able to beautifully decorate his designs. During this museum lesson, students work with a museum docent to discover what a stencil is and how Pierre Cuypers used stencils. After exploring the museum, the students get to work making their own stencils. The class will go home with a piece of wallpaper they created together using stencils for their classroom.
