Visiting Cuypers
Museum lesson for Years 1–4 (also available for Years 5–8 upon request)
This museum lesson introduces pupils to what a museum is and who Pierre Cuypers was.
Lesson content
Together with a museum educator, pupils explore the Cuypershuis. The lesson begins at the museum entrance, where they are welcomed by the bust of Pierre Cuypers. What exactly is a museum? Who was Pierre Cuypers, and what did he do?
The answers are discovered together during an interactive tour of the museum. The lesson is centred around the pupils' own experiences and curiosity. Along the way, they discuss the remarkable ceiling, the different materials Cuypers worked with, and the many things he designed—not only buildings, but also furniture and sculptures.
The museum visit concludes with a creative activity: pupils colour in the decorative ceiling they saw during the tour and/or build with blocks.
