The return of natural grazing and landscape management by sheep across the country yields thousands of kilograms of wool annually, most of which is currently discarded. Christien Meindertsma explores ways to give wool—a “waste product”—a new lease on life.
The exhibition visualizes Meindertsma’s research into new applications for wool through sketches, experiments, and scale models, and tells stories from various perspectives—not only that of the designer herself, but also from the fields of landscape management and the manufacturing industry.
Energy Transition and “Wool Days” at the Cuypershuis
The demand for green energy continues to grow, and there are numerous new developments. But introducing and using “something new” isn’t always easy or straightforward due to its impact on daily life and the associated costs.
Every first Thursday of the month, there is a “Wool Day” at the museum and at locations such as the Maximina Women’s Center and the Groene Transformator. This is a participatory project where you get hands-on with wool and discover how to make sustainable choices in your daily life. The result is a handout full of tips and insights to help and inspire others in the energy transition. The findings are shared with the Sustainability Department of the City of Roermond.
