Poet Quirien found inspiration in our museum garden and—as a resident of Roermond and chair of the Roerzicht neighborhood council—offered this poetic commentary:
The Cuypers House, located here in Roermond
Has been a national historic monument for many years
And we knew it was also iconic
But now it has truly earned that status
The Iconic Houses Network connects people worldwide
The homes of the greatest architects
Who left their mark on the modern era
So, the world’s most iconic properties
Visit Vittorio Giorgini’s house in Italy
In the U.S., let out a huge “wow” at Frank Lloyd Wright’s home
Admire Gaudí’s little Spanish home
And visit Villa Zevaco in Casablanca
And if you still come home unsatisfied
Then visit the iconic Cuypers House

Iconic House: Cuypers House
The former home of architect Pierre Cuypers was recently inducted into the prestigious international Iconic Houses Network. During Open Monument Day, the Cuypers House celebrated its induction into the network, which included the unveiling of a plaque on the museum’s facade.
The Cuypershuis is housed in a unique building. At the age of 25, Cuypers built the property on the outskirts of his hometown of Roermond. Cuypers used it as a home for himself and his family. In addition, a large part of the building was set aside for studios where draftsmen, painters, sculptors, and other artisans worked.
