The story behind this film
The founding of Munster Abbey—eight centuries ago—was significant for the town of Roermond and contributed to the city’s further development. Today, the Munster Church remains the only visible part of this former Cistercian monastery. In the 19th century, the Munster Church underwent extensive restoration by architect Pierre Cuypers and was given its distinctive twin towers. Inside the church, in addition to a unique mausoleum, you can also see a copy of one of the oldest paintings in Dutch history: the Roermond Passion Table.
