With Hendriks’ arrival, the Cuypershuis is strengthening its organization during a period of renewal. The museum is working toward a future in which heritage, architecture, and contemporary themes are more closely interconnected. The “Vooruit met Cuypers” strategy focuses on creating a museum with strong content that is accessible to the public.
Hendriks brings extensive experience at the intersection of culture, organization, and governance. Previously, he served as team manager for museums, programming, and innovation at Centre Céramique. In that role, he was responsible for leading the curatorial teams at the Maastricht Museum and the Maastricht Natural History Museum, as well as for developing programming and innovation.
Previously, he worked as a team manager and policy advisor for various municipalities, where he focused on culture, real estate, and organizational development. In 2020, he earned his Ph.D. in cultural studies from the Open University.
“I see it as a fantastic challenge and a great honor to give the life and work of Pierre Cuypers the attention it deserves. The well-thought-out vision for the future provides me with a solid foundation to shape that vision in the coming years,” said Hendriks.
The Cuypershuis is a museum dedicated to architect Pierre Cuypers that connects heritage and architecture with contemporary themes. The museum caters to a broad audience and plays an important role in Roermond’s cultural offerings.

Martin Hendriks has been appointed director of the Cuypershuis Museum. He began his tenure on April 1, 2026, and will lead the museum’s further development. The appointment marks the next step in the new strategic direction, “Moving Forward with Cuypers.”
