During a festive awards ceremony at the Cuypershuis in Roermond on Thursday, September 18, the winners of the Harrie Tillie Prize and the Limburg Design Award 2025 were announced. The Harrie Tillie Prize for young talent went to Nienke Hoogvliet, and the Limburg Design Award went to Team Thursday. The Audience Choice Award was presented to Simone Post.
The jury praised Nienke Hoogvliet for her innovative and multidisciplinary approach, in which sustainability and material innovation are integral components. Jury member Jeroen Junte commented:
“Hoogvliet combines a poetic design language with a strong social consciousness. In doing so, she sets the direction for the design of the future. She knows how to make urgent themes such as sustainability and systemic change both tangible and aesthetically appealing. Her work is thoughtful, activist, and gentle. She demonstrates that idealism and beauty can go hand in hand.”
Team Thursday was praised for their powerful visual signature and the way in which they consistently produce surprising graphic designs through close dialogue with clients.
“Their work demonstrates how typography can surprise while remaining highly accessible,” said the jury. “Team Thursday succeeds in expanding graphic design into a total experience. Their work is bold, colorful, and at the same time carefully constructed. They create designs that speak, entice, and connect.”
Visitors to the exhibition have been able to vote for the People’s Choice Award since April. With over 600 votes, Simone Post was named the winner. She responded with delight: “It’s special to see that my work resonates with so many visitors.” The jury added:
“Simone Post combines joy and precision. With a powerful, distinctive style and a keen eye for the use of materials, she knows how to transform waste streams into iconic designs.”
In the Footsteps of Cuypers
Through the Harrie Tillie Prize and the Limburg Design Award, the municipality of Roermond honors designers who, like architect Pierre Cuypers, combine craftsmanship with substantive conviction and a strong relationship with their clients. The work of all nominees is on display through November 9 in the exhibition “Design in Motion: Design in the Footsteps of Cuypers.” On October 16, Nienke Hoogvliet will give a presentation on the uses of seaweed, and on November 5, Team Thursday will lead a workshop on typography.
