Grand Opening

The six designers featured in the exhibition were introduced during an interview by Chequita Nahar (member of the selection committee, designer, and program manager for the Autonomous Visual Arts and Design programs at the Maastricht Institute of Arts, Zuyd). Alderman Vincent Zwijnenberg performed the official opening, after which the children’s council cast the first votes for the audience award.

About the Exhibition

Cuypers was not only a celebrated architect but also a designer of complete living environments: from impressive structures to refined interiors and furniture. He carefully selected materials and traditional techniques to bring his clients’ identities to life. The six designers featured in this exhibition carry on his legacy by working in the same comprehensive manner, combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative ideas and contemporary methods.

Harrie Tillie Prize and Limburg Design Award

To promote and highlight high-quality design in the tradition of Cuypers, the City of Roermond presents biennial design awards at the Cuypershuis. The Harrie Tillie Prize supports young talent, and this year’s nominees are Bart Lunenburg, Bouke Bruins, and Nienke Hoogvliet. For the Limburg Design Award, which focuses on designers who have already made their mark, Team Thursday, Truly Truly x Leolux, and Simone Post have been nominated. The work of all six talents is on display in the exhibition.

Visitors are warmly invited to come see the exhibition for themselves and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award.

“Design in Motion” is on view through November 9, 2025, at the Cuypershuis in Roermond.
