1. Model of St. Lambert’s Church in Veghel
St. Lambert’s Church in Veghel was built by Pierre Cuypers in 1856. Cuypers would take such models “out into the countryside” to show parish priests what was possible. The Cuypershuis collection contains a total of two church models. The model of St. Martin’s Church in Wyck (Maastricht) is on display in the permanent exhibition.
2. Scale model of the choir and ambulatory of St. Jacob’s Church in ’s-Hertogenbosch
This model is the only one based on a design by Joseph Cuypers in the Cuypershuis collection. It is a good example of how designs on paper were developed into a scale model. A photograph of this model was recently discovered among the restored and digitized glass negatives of the Cuypershuis.
What makes this project even more special is that the Tim Schoenmakers Restoration Studio will carry out a large part of the restoration “on-site” in our Cuyperslab. You can watch Tim at work and talk to him about the restoration process and the rich history of these scale models.
Preserving the models is the top priority during the restoration. The treatment includes replacing visibly missing parts that are known to have originally been there and treating the models for woodworm. Tim Schoenmakers will be at the Cuyperslab on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays through December.
