From the Cuypers family estate, great-grandson Pierre Cuypers has donated a unique Dagobert Chair to the Cuypers House in Roermond.
The Cuypershuis is located in the former home and studio of architect Pierre Cuypers (1824–1921). The museum’s collection has been built up since 1932 and is regularly expanded with donations from various family members. With this gift, another beautiful family heirloom has been added to the collection.
The chair was restored thanks to a contribution from the Friends of the Cuypershuis and donations from their members. The Dagobert Chair will soon be on display online on the Cuypershuis website.
The new acquisition: a Dagobert Chair by Pierre Cuypers
The term “Dagobert Chair” is used to describe chairs with cross-shaped legs. The unique design dates back to Roman times. This chair was likely made in the Roermond workshops, based on a design by architect Pierre Cuypers.
This Dagobert Chair can be seen in a photograph and a glass negative from the Cuypershuis collection. With this donation, the chair returns to the place where it was originally used: Pierre Cuypers’s home.
