Saturday, September 12, 1:00 p.m.: Lecture by Wies van Leeuwen
The Roermond architect Pierre Cuypers devoted his entire life to historic buildings. Early in his career, he became involved in the restoration of churches in Limburg, including the Munsterkerk in Roermond. Together with Victor de Stuers, Pierre pushed the boundaries between restoration and radical reconstruction during major restoration projects; for them, the past was malleable. Wies van Leeuwen, biographer of Pierre Cuypers, will take you on a journey through this fascinating story in the auditorium.
The lecture will last approximately one hour. Due to limited seating, we ask that you register in advance.
Sunday, September 13, 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.: Lectures by Tim Schoenmakers
Restorer Tim Schoenmakers will share the story behind two original models in the Cuypers Lab: the Lambertus Church in Veghel (Pierre Cuypers) and the St. James Church in Den Bosch (Joseph Cuypers). Tim will discuss the restoration process while standing next to the models and will answer questions. He will be present from 1:00–2:00 p.m. and 3:00–4:00 p.m., and you’re welcome to drop by to listen to his story or ask questions about the models and the restoration.
