Starting in 1902, Pierre and, in particular, his son Jos put forward several ideas for this purpose. When Henry Luyten offered in 1930 to donate a collection of his paintings to his hometown of Roermond, the project gained momentum.
In August 1932, on the occasion of the city’s 700th anniversary, Princess Juliana opened the Roermond Museum on Maastrichterweg. The works of Cuypers and Luyten take center stage in this museum. The temporary exhibition shows how the museum came to be, as well as what is on display at Roermond’s first museum. Using a specially developed app, anyone can visit the locations in Roermond that were significant to the museum’s founding.
