Joep Nicolas

11 June 2014 to 11 January 2015

The Cuypershuis is hosting an exhibition on the life and work of the renowned Roermond-based stained-glass artist and painter Joep Nicolas (1897–1972).

For the first time, works by Joep Nicolas from the art collection of Stichting 1880 are being displayed alongside works from the municipal collection, supplemented by images and objects from the extensive Nicolas collection held at the Roermond Municipal Archives. Another highlight is the loan of the Maartens Window from the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam—a window that, in one fell swoop, completely transformed the art of stained glass and Nicolas’s career.

Set against a contemporary backdrop, the exhibition highlights the extraordinary life and impressive artistic career of Joep Nicolas. The extremely important and innovative role he played in the field of stained glass is literally the centerpiece of the exhibition.

This exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Roermond-based Stichting 1880.
