Design and craftsmanship come together in the heart of Roermond. Six contemporary designers showcase how they combine their passion for craftsmanship with a modern vision, and their designs bridge the gap between tradition and innovation. Just like Pierre Cuypers, they are masters at connecting different disciplines, with a keen eye for the world around them.
The six designers in this exhibition are nominees for the Harrie Tillie Prize and the Limburg Design Award 2025. During your visit, you can cast a vote for the People’s Choice Award. Who will you vote for?
Meet the designers:
Bouke Bruins engages passersby in public spaces with playful interventions that disrupt daily routines. As a social designer, he seeks to surprise and disrupt passersby, helping them become aware of their surroundings and their own routines. His designs transform the meaning of the space they occupy and serve as a starting point for new encounters.
Nienke Hoogvliet develops products that do not harm nature by responsibly processing waste materials—such as fish skin—and natural raw materials—such as seaweed. As a maker, she is committed to raising awareness of the long-term value that sustainable material choices can offer.
Bart Lunenburg explores the layers of memory in buildings, specifically how architecture stores ideas, desires, fears, and flaws. He works with materials connected to a building’s history using traditional techniques, often in surprising combinations—from weaving to inlay work.
Simone Post gives new life to materials labeled as waste. Her work ranges from small to very large, from ceramics to murals—all equally colorful and distinctive. Through her work, she aims to raise awareness at a time when raw materials are becoming increasingly scarce.
Team Thursday ( Simone Trum and Loes van Esch) combines a love of color, patterns, and typography into distinctive designs. By applying patterns to three-dimensional objects, such as furniture or even entire interiors, a connection is created between objects and architecture. In this way, Team Thursday’s designs form, as it were, a Gesamtkunstwerk.
Studio Truly Truly ( Kate and Joel Booy) serves as the artistic director for furniture manufacturer Leolux. They design fabrics, furniture, and lamps—objects that define the spaces we inhabit and our behavior within them. Function and experience come together in carefully chosen combinations of materials, textures, and colors.
Harrie Tillie Prize and Limburg Design Award
In the fall of 2025, the City of Roermond will present the Limburg Design Award and the Harrie Tillie Prize. Six designers have been nominated for these awards for their unique vision of design and how it contributes to the world around them. With their exploratory and artisanal approach, and by bringing together different disciplines, they carry on Cuypers’ legacy.
The nominees for the Harrie Tillie Prize, which focuses on young talent, are:

The nominees for the Limburg Design Award, the prize for talented established designers, are:
